Join the Red Cross: Support Local Military Communities with Our Food and Hygiene Drive!

The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas is launching a food and hygiene drive for local military families. This event runs from October 27 to November 7 and aims to support those facing uncertainties during the current government shutdown.

Marama Bayles-Raleigh, the Regional Director of Service to the Armed Forces, emphasizes the importance of community support. “Our military partners alerted us to the challenges families may encounter. We’re encouraging communities to come together and help,” she said.

You can donate items at the Armed Forces Reserve Center at 7116 SE Forbes Avenue, available Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you’re on Fort Riley, drop-offs can be made at 210 S Custer Room 007, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The items will be organized and distributed to those in need.

Here’s a list of the most needed items:

• Non-perishable food, particularly meats or meals
• Baby food
• Diapers and wipes
• Toilet paper
• Paper towels
• Laundry supplies
• Pet food
• Full-size hygiene items like razors, soap, and shampoo

You can also support the drive by purchasing items from an Amazon wishlist and sending them directly to the Red Cross.
