State College is throwing an exciting community festival to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day in Sidney Friedman Park. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
This year, the borough is expanding its Earth Day celebrations to include Arbor Day. It’s a fitting addition, especially since State College has been honored as a Tree City USA for over 40 years. This recognition highlights the community’s devotion to maintaining its green spaces. “This achievement shows the community’s commitment to urban forestry,” says Lance King, the borough arborist.
Attendees can look forward to over 30 vendors sharing valuable insights on environmental and sustainability topics. Local organizations from Penn State will participate, offering a chance to learn about everything from sustainable food systems to nuclear science.
There’s something for everyone! Young attendees can get creative at a crochet station, or they can join in crafts hosted by the Bellefonte Fiber Arts Crafting Circle.
Food lovers will enjoy a variety of local cuisines from vendors such as Rebelz Mobile Cuisine and Mya’s Jamaican Potroast. The festival will also feature live music, setting a lively backdrop for the event.
As interest in environmental issues continues to grow—nearly 70% of Americans now support stronger climate action—celebrations like this one are more important than ever. They provide a space for community members to connect and engage in meaningful discussions about sustainability.
Getting to the park is easy with public transport options available, or you can park at nearby garages. “From climate advocacy and bird conservation to crafts and music, everyone will find something to enjoy,” Bohsali adds.
