Northern Arizona Track and Field Open Tryouts

Exciting news for NAU students! The Northern Arizona men’s track and field team is welcoming new talent as they prepare for the Big Sky Championships.

Mark your calendars for an interest meeting on Friday, February 6, at 2 p.m. This will be held at the Student-Athlete High Performance Center. Please gather at the entrance when you arrive.

If you’re interested in trying out, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • Full-Time Enrollment: You need to be a full-time student at Northern Arizona University this spring (12 credits minimum).

  • NCAA Registration: You must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. You can do that by following this link.

    • Freshmen should have an Academic and Athletic Certification Account.
    • Students enrolled for over two semesters can register for an Athletic Certification Account if they don’t have one yet.
  • Eligibility Clock: Ensure you have time left on your five-year eligibility clock. This clock starts as soon as you enroll full-time at any college. You have four seasons to compete within five calendar years.

For any questions, reach out to Sheridan Cook, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services, at Sheridan.Cook@nau.edu.

Insights and Context

According to recent statistics, participation in collegiate sports has seen a surge, with nearly 500,000 student-athletes competing across NCAA divisions in recent years. This rise reflects a growing interest among students to combine education with athletics.

A recent survey by the NCAA found that athletes often perform better academically than their non-athlete peers. Many believe that being part of a team instills discipline and time management skills, which can lead to better performance in their studies.

As you consider trying out, think about how being part of a team at NAU can shape your college experience. It’s not just about competition—it’s also about camaraderie, personal growth, and community.

So, if you’re ready to lace up your sneakers and chase your dreams, the Lumberjacks are waiting!
