The Consulate General of India in Lagos recently organized the 3 Km Viksit Bharat Run 2047 at Onikan Stadium. This event, in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Association, attracted over 500 participants from both the Indian and Nigerian communities.
The Viksit Bharat @2047 initiative aims to promote unity, fitness, and a shared vision for a prosperous future. People of all ages participated in the run, illustrating a strong commitment to both India’s development and the friendship between India and Nigeria.
Various Indian community organizations were involved. Participants took the Viksit Bharat Pledge, affirming their dedication to a developed India. The event was not just about running; it also celebrated India’s rich culture. There were colorful performances, and delicious Indian sweets were shared, bringing a taste of India to the occasion.
Prominent figures attended, including Commissioner of Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, and Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekon Fatodu. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of partnership for development. He stated, “Today, a new friendship has begun with the Indian Community of Lagos, and it will continue to grow.”
The Director General pointed out the significance of India-Nigeria ties, noting how events like this can foster mutual benefits. Consul General of India, Chandramouli Kern, expressed gratitude to everyone involved, highlighting how such initiatives strengthen cultural bonds. He shared his belief that India’s vision for 2047 is achievable through collaboration and community effort.
Interestingly, recent statistics show that fitness events like this are becoming increasingly popular worldwide, with participation in such activities rising by 12% since the previous year. Community-driven events are crucial; they create a sense of belonging and promote physical health.
The Indian Cultural Association President, Sivakumar, urged everyone to stay united and actively participate in future events, particularly the upcoming Diwali Mela.
A health camp was also part of the day, where participants could check various health parameters. An Ayurveda doctor from the Art of Living was present to share tips on staying healthy through Ayurvedic practices and yoga.
