Join the Youth Eco Summit: Empowering Indian Students to Combat AI’s Environmental Impact and Fight Climate Change

AI is no longer just a future concept. It’s shaping our classrooms, careers, and even climate solutions. But with this rapid growth, questions about responsibility and ethics are emerging. Sridhar Vembu, the founder of Zoho, highlighted a crucial issue: advanced AI systems consume a lot of energy. Thus, we must ask—how ready is the next generation to address the environmental impacts of AI?

At the Youth Eco Summit, this concern took center stage. Students from 66 cities in India came together not to debate technology’s merits but to explore how to use it wisely. Voices like Prasiddhi Singh, a recognized climate leader, and Viraansh Bhanushali from the Oxford Union brought valuable insights. They discussed the opportunities and responsibilities that come with AI’s rise.

The event featured a simulation called MINI COP30, where students from 28 Jaipur schools acted as countries to tackle big themes like e-waste and climate change. Their resolutions echoed the youth’s voice in broader climate discussions, emphasizing the vital role of young people in the climate crisis.

Under the theme ‘Youth x AI: Green Leaders of Tomorrow,’ the summit focused on experiential learning. Students showcased their Waste-to-Art models and engaged in various creative activities, like the TECNO AI Meme Studio. These experiences made complex climate topics easier to understand while presenting career options in green sectors.

Pankaj Bajaj from the Bajaj Foundation pointed out that students attended out of genuine interest, not obligation. He stressed, “You’re here because you care. The choice to act now will shape our future.”

Organized by key ministries and organizations, the summit reinforced the power of young leaders in building a sustainable future. As we move forward, it’s clear that the voices of today’s youth will play a crucial role in navigating the intersection of technology and environmental responsibility.
