Mercer Street Friends will host a turkey distribution event for its pantry partners on November 18. This year, they plan to give out 10,000 turkeys to over 100 local organizations. Key supporters include Wakefern, Capital Health, Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
From 10 to 11:30 a.m., volunteers will pack and load turkeys into boxes for delivery to food banks. Bernie Flynn, the CEO of Mercer Street Friends, and James “Butter” Allen, the COO and Food Bank Director, will be present to oversee the operation. Mercer Street Friends is committed to supporting the community by providing food, educational programs, and family support.
In addition, the City of Trenton will hold its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway on November 24. The event starts at noon and runs until supplies last. Residents are encouraged to come early and bring bags for the turkeys. Distribution will happen at three locations: Unity Square Park, West Ward Rec Center, and George Page Park. This initiative aims to support local families during the holiday season.
Recent data shows a rising need for food assistance. According to Feeding America, food insecurity affects 1 in 8 people in the U.S. That’s why initiatives like these are so crucial. They help ensure that no family has to go without a Thanksgiving meal.
