MANNA FoodBank Wraps Up Final Giveaway at Asheville Mall
MANNA FoodBank recently held its last pop-up giveaway at the Asheville Mall. This event was a chance to distribute leftover food from an earlier drive.
The Asheville Mall site has been vital for the community. Many people from east Asheville and Swannanoa, who are still recovering from recent hardships, relied on it. Bethany Vance, MANNA’s community markets manager, pointed out a pressing issue: donations are decreasing.
"Our warehouse is starting to run low," Vance noted. "We’ve noticed fewer meal sites and pop-ups. More people are returning to our distribution network because resources are dwindling."
A recent survey showed that food insecurity remains a growing concern. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 10.5% of American households were food insecure in 2021, up from 9% in 2020. The impact of the pandemic continues to be felt, with many families still struggling to meet their daily needs.
If you’re worried about food access, MANNA FoodBank plans to continue its operations from its Mills River location and other sites throughout the area. They’re committed to helping those in need.
