Over the years, four EU Clean Air Fora have taken place in Paris (2017), Bratislava (2019), Madrid (2021), and most recently Rotterdam (2023). These forums aim to enhance air quality across Europe by promoting effective EU policies.
The fifth edition will be held in Bonn, Germany, on December 1-2, 2025, organized by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). It’ll kick off at 13:00 on December 1 and wrap up by 16:00 on December 2. You can watch the forum online here.
This upcoming forum will focus on evaluating the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive, expected to conclude by the end of 2025. It will also address the new Ambient Air Quality Directive and explore how clean technologies can maintain Europe’s competitiveness.
Key topics include:
- Earth observation and clean air
- AI and machine learning for air quality
- Innovation and investments for a cleaner Europe
- Evaluating the NEC Directive
- Regional initiatives for clean air
- Climate issues and pollutants
- Effective communication around clean air and health
The forum will also spotlight an exhibition featuring the latest research, tools, and innovations in air quality. This will include insights from respected organizations like the European Space Programme and the European Environment Agency, which are crucial for driving progress in air quality policy. Recent studies suggest that cleaner air can increase life expectancy by an average of 1-2 years, emphasizing the importance of these discussions.
