The Tye Dye Cafe in Redding recently hosted its second free food giveaway, helping those in need with meals and essential items. This event took place on Sunday and followed a successful giveaway in December, where they distributed over 300 meals along with socks and eyeliner.
Owner Josh Jarred expressed gratitude for the growing support from the community, which has made organizing these events easier. Back in December, he and local volunteers served up hundreds of cups of soup. This time, they prepared large pots of homemade chili and offered hot drinks, cornbread, and essentials like socks and dog treats.
Local businesses also stepped up to help. Contributions came from Cali Customs, Franz Bakery, and US Foods CHEF’STORE. Jarred even covered any gaps in funding out of his own pocket.
“Nobody else is doing this,” he said, highlighting the importance of providing food to anyone who is hungry, not just those who are homeless. “Everyone appreciates a good meal.”
By the end of the day, they had served over 200 meals at this event. Jarred aims to hold these giveaways every two to three months and plans to offer seasonal food options. He welcomes anyone interested in volunteering to get involved.
