Join Us for a Benefit Concert Supporting the New London Currach Rowers Team!

NEW LONDON — The celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day kicks off on Saturday, February 22, with a lively event at Filomena’s Restaurant in Waterford. From 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, join us for a joyous Celebration of Irish Music. Two fantastic musical groups, the Bards of Gungywamp and the Johnson Girls, will take the stage. They plan to alternate performances featuring traditional Irish tunes and maritime songs.

Expect to sing along and clap to the rhythms of classic chanteys. The Bards of Gungywamp will showcase their skills on traditional instruments, making the whole experience feel festive and fun. During intermission, members of the Spirited Soles Irish Dance Academy will entertain everyone with their energetic jigs and reels.

This concert helps support the New London-based Currach Rowing team. They proudly continue the tradition of rowing these unique vessels, which originated in Ireland. The team competes against others in the North American Currach Association, showcasing their skills and the beauty of this ancient sport. They will also host their annual regatta in New London on July 26.

Team President Maureen Plumleigh invites everyone to join, regardless of background. “You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy the camaraderie and take on this rewarding challenge,” she shared.

Along with the Currach Rowers, the John P. Holland Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Connecticut Sea Music Festival will be part of this celebration, honoring Irish customs and culture.

If you’re interested in attending, a few tickets may be available at the door, but it’s best to come early!
