Join Us for a Community-wide Food Distribution Event at NGTC

North Georgia Technical College recently held a drive-thru mobile food pantry, helping over 180 families in Northeast Georgia. This event took place on August 28 at the Clarkesville campus and was part of the college’s Welcome Week activities.

The initiative aimed to support the local community and emphasized NGTC’s commitment to improving the lives of those it serves. Sherry Seal, the Campus Life Director, expressed gratitude for partnerships with organizations like the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Neighbors 4 Neighbors. She noted, “We’re thrilled to have assisted 181 families and look forward to holding more events like this.”

NGTC President John Wilkinson praised the staff’s hard work in organizing the pantry. He highlighted that while Welcome Week focuses on student engagement, it’s vital to extend support to the wider community.

Beyond the mobile pantry, NGTC runs a year-round program called “Feeding the Pack.” This food pantry helps students and staff facing food insecurity. Supplies are donated and available Monday through Thursday. The community can contribute by donating items like canned goods, peanut butter, snacks, water, and hygiene products.

Research indicates that food insecurity affects a growing number of people. A recent survey found that about 14% of U.S. households experienced food scarcity at some point in 2022. Initiatives like Feeding the Pack are crucial in addressing this issue locally.

Donations can be dropped off at the Carlton Student Center on the Clarkesville campus, located at 1500 Highway 197 North. For more information about the food pantry or the mobile distribution, visit northgatech.edu/feeding-the-pack or call Sherry Seal at 706-754-7730.

The recent mobile food pantry event and ongoing support programs highlight the essential role NGTC plays in the community. The college’s efforts not only help families today but also contribute to building a stronger future for all.
