Give mom a break this Mother’s Day! The Statesboro Food Bank is hosting a special fundraiser called “Mom’s Day Off: A Smokin’ Good Fundraiser.” This event is a great way to enjoy delicious BBQ while supporting a worthy cause.
Prepared by Rev. Chester Harris of Five Star Catering, the menu offers:
- Boston Butt: $45
- Beef Brisket: $55
- Baby Back Ribs: $40
- Smoked Chicken: $25
In addition to larger meals, you can also grab lunch plates—$15 for adults and $10 for kids. Options include rib plates and BBQ sandwiches. Dine in or take out, the choice is yours!
Pick-up is on May 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with dine-in seating available at the Sunshine Cafe from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This fundraiser not only treats moms to a day off cooking, but it also helps fight food insecurity in the community. The Food Bank serves about 750-800 families each week, providing essential meal boxes. With summer on the way, donations tend to drop, making events like this even more crucial.
Executive Director Sheila Stewart-Leach highlighted the importance of the fundraiser. “We are concerned about having enough food for nearly 800 families who rely on us for support. This event will help keep our shelves stocked during tough months,” she said.
So far, the Food Bank has raised over $2,000 toward a $10,000 goal. There’s still time to contribute by pre-ordering your meals before the deadline on May 4. The local community has shown amazing support, and she expressed gratitude to Ogeechee Heating and Air for sponsoring the event.
To join in on the fun, you can buy tickets here or visit the Food Bank in person at 506 Miller Street. Let’s celebrate mom while helping those in need!
Did you know that food banks across the U.S. are experiencing increasing demand? According to a recent report from Feeding America, food insecurity affects 1 in 8 Americans. Events like this one help address those growing issues on a local level, creating a stronger and more resilient community.
