Toledo – Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is holding a food safety training session for food service managers on November 10 at the Tama County Extension Office. This course is crucial for anyone working in food service, covering essential safety practices.
Holly VanHeel, an instructor and human sciences specialist at ISU, emphasizes the importance of proper food safety practices. She says, “Certification in ServSafe® is necessary for meeting Iowa’s Food Code requirements. In today’s world, ensuring food safety is not just important; it’s mandatory.” This eight-hour program is designed to equip food service professionals with the knowledge they need to uphold food safety standards.
The training is based on the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe® certification program. It’s suitable for a range of food service managers, including those from schools, restaurants, convenience stores, child care centers, senior meal sites, and healthcare facilities. Participants will receive a ServSafe® Manager training manual and take the certification exam.
Food safety is more critical than ever. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 48 million people get sick from foodborne illnesses each year in the U.S. Ensuring proper training can significantly reduce these risks.
For those interested, it’s important to register at least three weeks in advance. You can find registration through this link: Register here.
