SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Food Bank of El Dorado County has teamed up with the Marcella Foundation to host a free drive-thru Farmer’s Market food distribution. This event is set for Thursday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Attendees can expect fresh seasonal produce and non-perishable food items.
The distribution will take place at St. Theresa Church, located at 1041 Lyons Avenue. Volunteers from Bread & Broth and the Family Resource Center will assist with the event.
Last month, over 100 people, including drivers, walkers, and bikers, came to pick up food. The Food Bank expects even more participation this time.
Historically, the El Dorado Food Bank has hosted this outreach program monthly during the summer. However, due to recent funding cuts, ongoing support is key to continuing this essential service.
Giving trends show that local food banks across the U.S. have faced challenges, with many seeing a surge in need. According to a recent report from Feeding America, food insecurity has increased due to inflation and economic pressures. In 2022, roughly 10% of U.S. households faced food insecurity at some point during the year.
