Join Us for Brooklyn Center’s Exciting Health Fair: Mural Art Preparation and Thrilling 5K Race!

Brooklyn Center is hosting a Community Health Fair on Saturday, August 16, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Brooklyn Center Community Schools. This year’s theme is “Wellness for All,” reflecting the city’s commitment to support local health and wellness initiatives.

At the fair, attendees can enjoy free health and wellness screenings and learn about various health services in the area. A highlight of the day will be a 5K color run and walk, organized by the Sports and Leadership Academy, emphasizing both physical and mental well-being.

Frankie Mieman from the Sports and Leadership Academy said, “Partnering with the city has been a tremendous blessing. Our aim with the Mental Health Awareness Run/Walk is to bring attention to mental health alongside physical fitness.” This focus resonates with many, as mental health awareness is increasingly becoming a priority in communities nationwide.

The day kicks off with the 5K at 11:00 a.m., followed by opportunities for attendees to weigh in on the design of the next city mural, which will be shown at the community center. Raquel Diaz Goutierez, the city’s Artist in Residence, believes collecting community input for the mural is crucial. “Art brings healing and empathy to our community,” she explained. Goutierez has previously worked on murals in the city, highlighting its diversity and unique stories.

In recent years, health fairs like this one have seen increased interest as people become more proactive about their health. According to the CDC, community health events contribute significantly to overall wellness, with participants often reporting improved awareness of local health resources.

The Community Health Fair promises to be a day of fun, learning, and connection. It’s a chance for neighbors to support one another in their health journeys while celebrating Brooklyn Center’s vibrant community spirit.
