Join Us for Commencement: Inspirational Remarks by Dakota Wesleyan University Alumnus and Board Member Terry Nebelsick

Terry Nebelsick will deliver the keynote address at Dakota Wesleyan University’s Commencement on Sunday, May 11. His speech, titled "On This Solid Rock," promises to be inspiring.

Based in Huron, Nebelsick has a rich history with Dakota Wesleyan, graduating in 1978 with a degree in communications and theater. Now a vice chair of the board of trustees, he represents three generations of family graduates from the university. After retiring in 2021, he concluded a career that spanned multiple roles in education and sports. He worked as a radio broadcaster, teacher, coach, and high school principal, and even served as a superintendent for the Huron School District. His contributions to education earned him accolades, including South Dakota’s Secondary Principal of the Year in 2000 and Outstanding Superintendent in 2020.

After 35 years as a basketball official, Nebelsick remains active in education, frequently speaking to faculty and students, and engaging with various organizations. He also serves as a lay leader in his church and participates in the United Methodist Church Dakota Conference.

Terry and his wife, Diana, are proud parents of three children and grandparents to five. They are deeply rooted in their community, continuing to connect and inspire others.

This year’s commencement will also feature a baccalaureate service at 10 a.m. in the Sherman Center. For those unable to attend, the ceremony will be livestreamed at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Nebelsick’s journey reflects the impact of dedicated educators on future generations. His insights might ignite conversations about the importance of community and service in shaping young minds. In an age where education is increasingly digital, figures like Nebelsick remind us of the value in traditional roles and face-to-face connection. As schools navigate changes, his experiences may offer lessons on resilience and commitment.

The Dakota Wesleyan commencement is more than a ceremony; it’s a celebration of dedication, community ties, and the future of its graduates.
