Join Us for Empty Bowls: A Heartfelt Fundraiser Supporting Local Food Pantries

Empty Bowls Luncheon

The Empty Bowls of the Mid-Ohio Valley is excited to celebrate its 25th annual luncheon this Saturday. Join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at 304 W. Fifth St., Williamstown.

This event is all about giving back. Every dollar raised goes directly to local food pantries. It’s a great way to enjoy a meal while helping those in need.

On the menu, you’ll find a delicious selection of homemade soups, freshly baked bread, sweet cookies, and beverages. With a donation of $15, or $10 for children aged 6-12 (and free for those under 5), you’ll also take home a unique bowl crafted by local artists and students.

And that’s not all! There will be a silent auction featuring items related to food, adding even more excitement to the day. Tickets will be sold at the door, so feel free to stop by.

Mabry O’Donnell, a member of the Empty Bowls committee, shares the spirit of the event: “We are fortunate to live in such a caring community. Many are generous, but the need for food assistance continues to grow.”

The idea behind Empty Bowls started in 1990 in Michigan. An art teacher and community members created it as a way to come together for a simple meal while raising awareness about hunger. Since then, it has spread worldwide, with many artists using their talents to support local food initiatives.

One of the founders of our local event, Caroline Putnam, began the Mid-Ohio Valley program in 2001. She would surely be proud to see how our community has come together to combat food insecurity.
