Join Us for Food For Fines Day: Bozeman Municipal Court and HRDC Team Up to Make a Difference!

On September 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., individuals who are paying fines can participate in the Food For Fines event. This initiative, organized by the Bozeman Municipal Court and the Human Resource Development Council, will take place at the Bozeman Public Safety Center located at 901 N Rouse Ave.

Heather Grenier, the president and CEO of HRDC, emphasized the importance of community support: “Everyone deserves the chance to contribute in meaningful ways. Each food item donated will help restock local food banks, making a real impact on those in need.”

Participants can receive a $10 credit toward their fines for each non-perishable food item they bring, up to a total of $200 or 20 items. However, there are certain restrictions: individuals with active warrants, those only paying restitution, or those engaged in community service in place of fines are not eligible.

This initiative not only helps those with fines but also addresses food insecurity in the community. According to a recent survey, many families in the Bozeman area struggle with affording basic necessities. Food banks have reported a significant increase in demand, especially since the pandemic. Programs like Food For Fines aim to bridge that gap while offering a meaningful way for individuals to contribute to their community.
