Join Us for LA Tech’s 52nd Annual University Farm Production Sale: Mark Your Calendar for May 3!

Louisiana Tech University’s School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry is gearing up for its 52nd annual University Farm Production Sale on Saturday, May 3. This vibrant event takes place at the Tech Farm on the University’s South Campus, located at Ben Grafton Lane and Tech Farm Road in Ruston. Livestock viewing starts at 10 a.m., with the auction kicking off at 1 p.m. Plus, attendees can enjoy a complimentary lunch.

This year’s sale showcases high-quality livestock options, including:

• Angus cross pairs with Brangus-sired calves
• Black Baldy cross pairs
• Heifers from Angus, Baldy, Brangus, Braford, and Hereford breeds
• Finished market steers, hogs, and lambs, with processing included

The sale is organized by dedicated faculty, staff, and students from Louisiana Tech. It serves as both a fundraiser and a valuable hands-on learning experience. Students actively participate in every aspect, from livestock preparation to marketing and logistics.

Dr. Gary Kennedy, dean of the College of Applied and Natural Sciences, emphasized the importance of the event. “It’s a rich tradition that benefits our students. Funds raised will support scholarships and academic programs,” he said. In fact, the sale raised over $26,000 in 2024, directly improving student opportunities and enhancing livestock facilities.

In addition to funding scholarships, the sale helps strengthen community ties. “It’s a highlight of the year on South Campus,” noted Dr. Paul Jackson, head of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry. “The community comes together to support our students and showcase their hard work.”

The impact goes beyond just financial support. The sale contributed over 3,000 servings of beef to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana and the Tech Food Pantry last year. This reflects a growing trend in community-focused initiatives, as more universities engage in sustainability and local food security efforts.
