Join Us for Quincy University’s 162nd Commencement Ceremony: Celebrate Our Graduates’ Achievements!

QUINCY (WGEM) – Quincy University is gearing up for its 162nd Commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the university’s Football Stadium, located at 20th and Sycamore.

If you can’t make it in person, don’t worry! The ceremony will be live-streamed on YouTube.

This year’s graduating class features 180 students, with 157 earning undergraduate degrees and 23 completing graduate programs. Exciting times ahead!

Leading the procession will be University Marshal Robert Mejer, alongside assistant marshals Dr. David Kirchhofer and Dr. Scott Luaders. Degrees will be conferred by Dr. Sarah Vordtriede-Patton, the provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The ceremony will kick off with Reverend Daren Zehnle ’00 delivering the invocation, while the benediction will be given by Reverend Robert Barko ’81. The National Anthem will be performed by Dr. Jonathan Stewart and the Quincy University Alma Mater will be sung by Rachel Hommert ‘25 and Austin Wood ‘25, with accompaniment by Dr. J. Matthew Ward.

Katalina Lopez, a sport management major and criminal justice minor, has been chosen as the senior representative to give the welcome address. Notably active in campus life, she is also a founding member of Sigma Phi Eta and a part of the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice honor society. After graduating, Katalina plans to continue her education at QU, pursuing a master’s in counseling.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Ralph Oakley ’80, the former CEO of Quincy Media, Inc. His continued involvement in community work reflects the spirit of Quincy University.

Additionally, William H. Metzinger will receive an Honorary Degree Doctor of Human Letters during the ceremony, acknowledging his contributions to the community.

Festivities kick off on Friday with a champagne brunch for graduates at 11 a.m. in the Main Dining Room. There will also be a Baccalaureate Mass at 5 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel.

For some fun, graduates and their families can enjoy activities at the Festival on Friars’ Field from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

As QU celebrates this milestone, it’s a great reminder of the hard work and dedication these graduates have shown throughout their journey. Whether attending or watching online, it’s a moment to cherish.
