Join Us for the 2025 HIMSS Michigan Chapter Fall Conference: Transforming Healthcare on the Move!

The HIMSS Michigan Chapter recently wrapped up its annual Fall Conference, themed “Healthcare on the Move.” Over two days, leaders in healthcare and technology gathered to discuss exciting innovations and strategies shaping the future of healthcare in Michigan.

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) continues to support MiHIMSS actively, highlighting a joint commitment to advancing health IT and improving patient care. This partnership reflects MSMS’s focus on strategic initiatives that aim to enhance healthcare delivery in the state.

This year’s conference included a pre-conference session sponsored by MSMS, aimed at physician organizations. The session focused on data transparency and connectivity. Dr. Isabell Pacheco, the incoming CEO of the Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN), shared insightful updates on MiHIN’s plans for improved statewide data sharing. Following her talk, a panel of physician organizations discussed the crucial role of accessible data in fostering collaboration and improving patient outcomes.

Angela Vannker, Executive Director of GMPN, emphasized the importance of good data: “The real reason we focus on having good data is that there is a patient at the center of it all. We need to remember that patient care—for our loved ones and ourselves—depends on it.”

The main agenda included inspiring keynote speeches and focused sessions. Dr. Tricia Baird, Vice President of Care Coordination at Corewell Health, kicked off the conference by discussing transformational change. Her team was recognized with the 2024 HIMSS Davies Award for their efforts in improving primary care coordination.

Conference discussions ranged from virtual care and cybersecurity to electronic health record cloud migration. A highlight was Michigan’s tribal health initiatives, with Dr. Michael Zaroukian sharing updates on statewide programs. This included expansion of high-speed internet access and the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

The event concluded with a compelling presentation by James Morris, CEO of Health Focus, who discussed the significance of population health and the data strategies necessary for achieving long-term success in this area.

As the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve, it’s clear that data will remain at the core of how we improve services and patient care. With health technology advancing rapidly, staying informed about these trends helps us all.
