Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is set to celebrate five amazing alumni and faculty members at its Alumni Awards dinner on February 6. The honorees this year are Gary Holland, Greg Edwards, Shannan Boyer, Kevin Donnelly, and Ken Jones. Each of them has made significant contributions to both the NKU community and beyond.
Dr. Cady Short-Thompson, NKU’s president, expressed pride in these individuals: “Gary, Greg, Shannan, Kevin, and Ken embody the values we promote at NKU: purpose, integrity, and service.”
Gary Holland will receive the Outstanding Alumnus Award. He is the founder and CEO of One Holland Corporation, which operates over 75 restaurants across Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Notable brands include Skyline Chili and Dunkin’. With a degree in accounting and a law degree from NKU, Gary actively supports students through partnerships that enhance their NKU experience, including the Norse Up craft lager supporting student-athletes.
Greg Edwards and Shannan Boyer will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award.
Greg has been a key figure in the Greater Cincinnati library system. After serving in the Army, he earned a degree from NKU and a master’s degree in library science. He also served on the Friends of Steely Library board, dedicating his time to improving the library experience for NKU students.
Shannan founded Scooter Media, a successful communications agency that has won numerous awards, including the PR Agency of the Year. As a first-generation college graduate, she remains involved in the NKU community and serves on various boards.
Kevin Donnelly will receive the Young Alumnus Award. As VP of project management for REDI Cincinnati, he focuses on attracting businesses to the area. Kevin has received accolades like being named a Top 50 Economic Developer in North America. He graduated with honors from NKU and played on the men’s soccer team.
Ken Jones will receive the Faculty/Staff Strongest Influence Award. He has been part of NKU’s Theatre and Dance Department since 1987 and played pivotal roles in developing the School of the Arts. Ken has received numerous awards for his contributions to the arts and education, including five Telly Awards and an Emmy nomination.
These awards highlight NKU’s commitment to recognizing those who make a difference in the university and local community. Their stories reflect the impact of NKU graduates and faculty, emphasizing a legacy of service and dedication.
