The James Biever Police-Community Alliance is hosting its fourth annual Cram-A-Cruiser food drive this Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grocery Outlet, located at 1301 Quentin Road, Lebanon. Local police departments are joining in to support the Lebanon County Christian Ministries Food Pantry.
This event invites the community to donate nonperishable food items and connect with local law enforcement. Froggy 100.1 will be live on-air featuring hosts Nancy and Newman to add to the excitement.
Food insecurity is rising in Lebanon County. A report from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank indicates that around 9.8% of residents struggle with accessing enough food. That’s nearly 14,000 individuals, with many relying on food pantries for support. In Lebanon city alone, over 4,300 residents are food insecure, and access to food pantries is limited, especially for those living in certain areas.
This issue is particularly concerning for children, who are 71% more likely to experience food insecurity compared to adults. “This event shows the power of community support,” said Michelle Biever, the alliance president. “We’re not just filling pantry shelves; we’re also building connections between residents and officers.”
Last year, the Cram-A-Cruiser drive gathered 2,100 pounds of food, which was a significant increase from the first event’s 1,800 pounds. Items most needed include rice, canned soups, pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, pasta sauce, toilet paper, and toothpaste. Donations can also be made at several local police stations during office hours, including the South Lebanon Police Department and the Lebanon County Regional Police Department.
