On April 29, 2025, Marquette University will welcome its new president, Dr. Kimo Ah Yun, during an inauguration ceremony at 10 a.m. This event will take place at the Al McGuire Center, located at 780 N. 12th St. Media representatives are invited to cover the ceremony, which will include a Mass and an installation ceremony.
Dr. Ah Yun was chosen as the university’s 25th president by the Marquette Board of Trustees last November. He previously served as the acting president and provost since June 2024. Dr. Ah Yun takes over after the late Dr. Michael R. Lovell, who was the first lay president and had a profound impact on the university until his passing in June 2024 due to sarcoma.
The inauguration promises to be a momentous occasion for Marquette University. It highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to leadership and service, values intrinsic to its mission. According to recent statistics, Marquette ranks in the top 20% of national universities and is recognized for its innovative approach to undergraduate teaching. The university has also earned a reputation for strong job placement, ranking sixth in the nation.
This orientation toward student success is evident in the educational environment Marquette cultivates. With over 11,000 students enrolled, the university emphasizes critical thinking and engagement, preparing graduates to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.
