Join Us for the Kentucky Veterans Brigade and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Food Drive at the Seven States Conference – WNKY News 40

Bowling Green, Ky. — This weekend, the Kentucky Veterans Brigade and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles are hosting a food drive during the annual Seven States Conference. This event brings together members from all over the country to brainstorm new ways to support those in need in their communities.

Each organization at the conference is donating food, aiming to make a big impact. They’re hoping to collect around 10,000 food items, which will provide critical support for veterans who struggle with food insecurity.

Tessy Webb, Fundraiser Coordinator for the Veterans Alliance Center, shared why this effort is so important: “Every bit helps. We give out 200 to 300 boxes a month to veterans and those experiencing homelessness.” This food drive isn’t just about numbers; it’s about bringing dignity back to those who served our country.

Charlie Martin, State President of the Kentucky Order of the Eagles, emphasized the challenge veterans face. “Every piece of food, every little dime helps them reintegrate into society, especially when they don’t have a place to go or eat,” he said. Many veterans return to find it hard to adjust, often lacking basic necessities.

This conference serves as a platform for these organizations to connect and share resources, focusing on improving lives within their communities. The collaborative spirit at events like this showcases a shared commitment to helping veterans and their families.

In recent years, the number of veterans experiencing food insecurity has grown. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, nearly 20% of veterans reported struggling to access enough food. Events like the Seven States Conference are crucial in combating this issue.

As the conference continues, attendees are encouraged to contribute. The food drive wraps up on Saturday, February 21st, followed by a banquet—an opportunity to celebrate community spirit and commitment to service.
