The conference aims to combine insights from various fields to develop new ways to promote peace. It seeks to change our perspective on peacemaking, breaking traditional barriers and exploring innovative methods for research, learning, and action.

Things kick off on February 21 with a keynote address by Dr. Matthew T. Lee, who leads Harvard’s Human Flourishing Program. He will speak about “What is Ecosystem-Wide Flourishing and Why Does It Matter to Peace?” at 7 p.m. in the Trustees Room of the John C. Myers Convocation Center. The talk is free and everyone is welcome.

Dr. Lee’s research focuses on well-being, helping others, and the intersection of social science and the humanities. He works with a global network dedicated to flourishing research and practices. He also teaches social sciences and humanities at Baylor University.

Dr. Lee has a rich background, having spent many years faculty at the University of Akron, where he focused on sociology and criminal justice. There, he earned the title of “Lifetime Community Engaged Scholar” for his dedication to community involvement.

The next day, on February 22, there will be an all-day academic conference with various presentations and workshops across multiple disciplines at AU’s Dauch College of Business and Economics from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is needed and can be done at ashland.edu/acn.

ACN has been promoting nonviolence for 21 years through education, training, and fostering relationships that support social justice and inclusivity.
