The James Biever Police-Community Alliance (JBPCA) is partnering with local police from Lebanon County for their Third Annual Cram-A-Cruiser food drive. On Saturday, May 17, come to Grocery Outlet at 1301 Quentin Road from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to join this important cause.
This food drive aims to help those in Lebanon County who are struggling to meet their basic needs. Many families are grappling with food insecurity, as rising prices and limited services take a toll on households. The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as not having reliable access to enough food for a healthy life.
Recent statistics from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank reveal that 9.8% of Lebanon County residents face food insecurity, with almost 14,000 people affected countywide. What’s even more concerning is that children are 71% more likely to experience food insecurity compared to adults, with child food insecurity rates at 14.4% versus 8.4% for adults. This gap highlights the pressing issue of child poverty in the area.
Last year’s event was a huge success, collecting 2,300 pounds of nonperishable items—an impressive increase from the 1,800 pounds gathered during the first drive. Items in need include rice, canned soups, pasta, canned meats, and toiletries. You can view the full wish list at the Lebanon County Christian Ministries website: LCCM Wish List.
Everyone is welcome to drop off nonperishable items and meet local police officers. Donations can also be dropped off at specified police stations during business hours, including the South Lebanon Police Department and the Lebanon County Regional Police Department.
Participating in this event not only helps stock food bank shelves but also strengthens community ties. As social media trends show, local efforts to tackle food insecurity are gaining attention. Many residents are sharing their contributions online, creating a ripple effect in community solidarity. Join us in making a difference!
