Join Us for the Walk for Her: Empowering Women in Kelowna!

The fourth annual Walk for Her is set to happen at Mission Park Greenway on May 31, from 10 a.m. to noon. This event highlights the importance of educational and empowerment opportunities for women and girls, both locally and globally.

Founded by the charity Her International, Walk for Her invites participants to stand in solidarity with women in Nepal. By joining, you’re part of a larger movement aimed at creating a brighter future for women everywhere.

Deena Hills, the President of Her International, emphasizes the significance of this initiative. “It’s not just a walk; it’s a statement,” she says. Each step taken symbolizes a commitment to gender equality, education, healthcare, and overall well-being for women and girls.

Funds raised will directly support programs in Nepal, offering educational scholarships for girls and empowerment opportunities for women. Hills points out that the two hours of the walk reflect the daily challenges women in rural Nepal face, such as walking long distances to gather firewood. “Every minute we walk brings us closer to a world where every woman and girl can thrive,” she explains.

The event isn’t limited to those in the park. You can participate from anywhere, whether solo or with friends. For those wishing to join, donate, or learn more, head to the Walk for Her website.

Why It Matters Now

Recent statistics reveal that educated women are less likely to face poverty and more likely to invest in their families’ health and education. According to a UN report from 2021, girls who complete secondary education can earn up to 20% more than those who do not.

Social media trends also show a growing global interest in gender equality. Hashtags like #GirlsEducation and #EmpowerWomen are trending, with individuals sharing stories of the impact of education on women’s lives.

Participating in Walk for Her, whether virtually or in person, allows you to become part of this vital movement. It’s a chance to raise awareness and take action for a cause that touches many lives.
