The University of Southern Indiana will host the 2025 Indiana Political Science Association (IPSA) Conference on November 21, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will take place in Carter Hall, University Center West.
Approximately 40 faculty and students are expected to attend. The highlight of the day will be a keynote address by Dr. Stephen Voss titled “The Redistricting Wars: Political Science in the Courtroom.”
Dr. Voss has been a part of the University of Kentucky since 1998. He studies elections, voting behavior, and electoral rules. He has also been involved in several redistricting and voting rights cases as a consultant or expert witness. As a nonpartisan analyst, Voss frequently shares his insights in the media, including regular appearances on WVLK radio and columns for the Kentucky Lantern. He has a doctorate from Harvard and degrees in journalism and history from Louisiana State University.
The conference will kick off with a networking reception on Thursday, November 20, at 6 p.m., allowing participants to connect before the main event.
Dr. Matt Hanka, a Professor of Political Science at USI, expressed enthusiasm about the conference, stating it offers students and faculty a chance to dive deeper into political science through original research presentations and important discussions. He believes such gatherings inspire a collective commitment to understanding the complexities of political life in today’s world.
The IPSA is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the field of political science in Indiana. It encourages research and education in various political areas, including American government, public policy, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory.
In recent years, interest in political science has surged. For instance, the Pew Research Center reported that over 60% of Americans now say they follow political news closely. This growing engagement reflects a broader trend of civic awareness and participation, especially among younger generations.
