Join Us in Chennai: Regional Environment Conference 2025 – December 6-7! Discover Insights and Innovations for a Sustainable Future!

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Chennai is set to host a Regional Conference on Environment on December 6-7, 2025. Under the leadership of Justice Prakash Shrivastava, the event aims to tackle pressing environmental issues in southern India.

The conference will kick off with an inaugural address by Justice M.M. Sundresh from the Supreme Court. Other dignitaries include Justice Aravind Kumar, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, and Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Environment, Thangam Thennarasu.

Participants will range from judges and environmental experts to local community leaders. Together, they aim to promote collaboration for better environmental stewardship. The conference is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

There will be three main sessions:

  1. Environmental Law Enforcement and Biodiversity Conservation – chaired by Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque from the Kerala High Court.

  2. Solid Waste and Biomedical Waste Management – led by Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy from the Madras High Court.

  3. Challenges in Protecting Coastal Zones – chaired by Justice Suraj Govindaraj from the Karnataka High Court.

The conference will wrap up with a Valedictory Session featuring Justice R. Mahadevan from the Supreme Court, alongside other prominent figures in the field. A Prize Distribution Ceremony will honor individuals making notable contributions to environmental protection.

This gathering comes at a crucial time. Recent surveys indicate that urban areas in India struggle with waste management and pollution. According to a 2022 study by the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution in Indian cities leads to thousands of premature deaths each year.

This conference aims to spotlight these issues and encourage actionable solutions. It’s not just about policy; it’s about the real impact on communities and future generations.
