If you have extra peppers, consider donating them to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. Gindo’s Spice of Life will turn these peppers into a delicious hot sauce, with all proceeds going to the pantry.
This is the third time Gindo’s and the food pantry have teamed up. From September 9 to October 1, you can drop off your hot and mild peppers at Gindo’s from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. They’ll use your donations to create a special sauce called Fire on the Fox: Three-Peat Heat.
The first batch of this collaboration in 2023 sold out quickly, raising $1,280 for the pantry. Last year, they doubled the amount and raised around $2,000, with a few bottles still available at the Batavia Farmers Market.
To donate, clean your peppers and place them in large Ziploc bags. If you pick them early, just clean and de-stem them and store them in the freezer until you can drop them off.
You can deliver your peppers to Gindo’s at 2002 W. Main St., Suite P, St. Charles. Alternatively, you can drop off freezer-ready peppers at the pantry’s tent at the Farmers Market on September 13.
The Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry helps locals in need. Founded by local churches, it provides food and clothing assistance to community members. Clients can register for a card and shop at the pantry once a month and the Clothes Closet twice a month.

Interestingly, community-driven initiatives like this one are on the rise. According to a recent survey, 60% of Americans believe local food banks play a crucial role in supporting their communities. The trend shows that more people are inclined to contribute to local charities, especially those that help fight food insecurity. It’s impressive to see how something as simple as a pepper can help feed those in need.
So if you have some peppers at home, consider making a small donation. It’s a great way to support your community while adding a little spice to someone’s life!
