Andrew Le and Qing Xue were recently elected to the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) Board of Directors during an annual meeting at the historic El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Park.
Alongside their election, the SBTHP honored local community members with awards for their dedication to preservation. Notably, William B. Dewey received the Pearl Chase Historic Preservation and Conservation Award for his years of volunteering on the Trust’s Artifacts & Exhibit Committee.
The Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation Department was recognized with the George and Vivian Obern Preservation Stewardship Award for its excellent work on the Carrillo Recreation Center Gym restoration. John Doordan earned the President’s Award for his exceptional contributions to the organization. Sally Foxen McNeill was named Volunteer of the Year for her efforts in various SBTHP events, including the “Once a Don Always a Don” exhibit.
Collaborative efforts also shined through. The SPACE, represented by MariaElena Lopez, won a Partnership Award for enhancing the educational experience at SBTHP. Additionally, Debby Aceves was honored as a Life Honorary Director, recognized for her invaluable service and her unique perspective as a ninth-generation descendant from the Presidio. Ron Nye was awarded the title of Life Honorary Member for his ongoing support of preservation efforts.
A Certificate of Appreciation was given to EQ25 for its partnership on the upcoming exhibit “Santa Barbara 1925-2025: A Portrait in Maps,” which commemorates the 1925 earthquake.
New board member Andrew Le is the CEO of Cleverific, a local company focused on helping online merchants improve revenue through better order management. A chemist-turned-entrepreneur, Andrew holds a degree in chemistry from UC Santa Barbara, blending technical knowledge with business insight.
On the other hand, Qing Xue is an architect with a flair for traditional design. With experience in both the U.S. and the U.K., her work spans residential and historic projects. Qing is deeply involved in Santa Barbara’s historic preservation and has contributed to initiatives like the State Street master plan. Her multicultural background and multiple degrees, including architecture from the University of Notre Dame and engineering, inform her approach to combining art and functionality.
As Santa Barbara continues to honor its history, the contributions of its community members like Andrew and Qing play a vital role in preserving the city’s rich cultural heritage.
