Rotary Club Food Drive This Saturday!

Mark your calendars! The Frankfort Rotary Club is hosting a food drive this Saturday at both Kroger stores in Frankfort. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Rotary Club members and volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations. All contributions will benefit the Emergency Community Food Pantry of Franklin County.

Miranda Marston, the club president, shared, “The need for food support is constant. This drive will help stock the pantry for the fall and assist families in crisis.” The Rotary Club, founded in 1922, has a long tradition of service and supports various projects, including scholarships for local students.

John Heltzel, a board member of the food pantry, expressed gratitude for the club’s efforts. “Thanks to the Rotary Club and other local organizations, we can provide a week’s worth of food to families in need,” he said.

Right now, the food pantry is particularly in need of items like:

  • Canned chicken or meat
  • Peanut butter
  • Boxed instant oatmeal
  • Soup
  • Canned fruit or vegetables
  • Spaghetti and sauce
  • Canned beans
  • Rice (one-pound bags)
  • Hamburger or Tuna Helper

The pantry operates as a volunteer-based non-profit, providing essential meals to families in Franklin County. Last year, they distributed over 135,000 meals to more than 6,000 individuals.

Food pantries like this one are crucial. According to recent studies, around 1 in 8 Americans faced food insecurity in 2024. The support from local organizations and volunteers makes a significant difference in many lives.
