On June 25, 2025, the Environment and Tree Fair will kick off at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will open the event. This fair runs until June 27, with the Tree Fair extending until July 24, welcoming visitors daily from 9 am to 9 pm.

The motto this year is: “Let’s Plant in a Planned Way to Build a Green Bangladesh.” This theme encourages everyone to participate in sustainable tree planting. It’s crucial because the country faces significant challenges from climate change and deforestation. An estimated 65% of Bangladeshi forests have been lost over the past century, highlighting the need for urgent action.

During the fair, awards will be given for dedicated efforts in wildlife protection and tree planting. The National Environment Award and National Wildlife Conservation Award will recognize outstanding contributions in these areas, inspiring others to take similar actions.

Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized the government’s commitment to combating environmental issues. The ongoing initiatives aim at improving forest resources, controlling pollution, and fostering community involvement. This aligns with a larger global push for sustainability, especially around events like World Environment Day.

In addition to the fair, educational activities will be held in various institutions. These will include art competitions, debates, seminars, and informative sessions. Such programs are essential for cultivating awareness among students about environmental challenges and solutions.

Moreover, tree fairs and sapling giveaways are planned across the country. This grassroots approach aims to engage local communities. Past initiatives have shown that when people are involved, the effectiveness of programs increases significantly. For example, a 2023 survey revealed that 78% of participants in similar programs reported increased awareness of environmental issues.

Experts predict that if current trends continue, Bangladesh could see a significant improvement in its forest coverage, which currently sits at around 15%. With community involvement and government support, this goal becomes increasingly attainable.

Leading officials, including Dr. Farhina Ahmed and Dr. Fahmida Khanom, are also enthusiastic about the upcoming events. Their presence at the press conference adds weight to the message: we can all contribute to a healthier environment.
