Join Us Wednesday: Community Flood Donation Drive at the Coliseum – Make a Difference!

To help those affected by recent flash floods, WVU Land-Grant and Community Outreach is organizing a donation drive for cleaning supplies. This initiative is happening on Wednesday, June 18, at the Coliseum parking lot.

If you’re part of the university community, you can drop off donations from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., or until the truck fills up. On Thursday, June 19, volunteers, including students and staff, will deliver these supplies to the Wheeling area to assist with cleanup efforts. Another group will be working in Marion County to support recovery.

Here’s a list of items needed:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • N95 or KN95 masks
  • Safety goggles or face shields
  • Heavy-duty rubber gloves
  • Work gloves (leather or waterproof)
  • Disposable coveralls
  • Steel-toe rubber boots

Cleaning and Sanitation Supplies

  • Contractor trash bags
  • Bleach and disinfectants (like Pine-Sol)
  • Mold and mildew remover
  • Buckets and mops
  • Scrub brushes
  • Sponges and rags
  • Spray bottles
  • Paper towels

Tools and Equipment

  • Flat and spade shovels
  • Push brooms
  • Crowbars
  • Utility knives
  • Sledgehammers
  • Wet/dry shop vacs
  • Outdoor-rated extension cords
  • Portable work lights

Every donation helps, and kindness makes a difference.

According to recent data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), extreme weather events, including floods, have become more frequent. In fact, over the last 50 years, the number of floods in the U.S. has increased by nearly 40%. This highlights the importance of community support during these challenging times.
