Feeding America West Michigan is kicking off a busy week of food distribution in Upper Michigan. Mobile pantries will be visiting Schoolcraft, Ontonagon, and Alger counties, starting Wednesday.
First up is the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, where families can start picking up food at 10 a.m. Eastern time. This is a great opportunity for those needing food assistance to get help from local volunteers.
Next, the Ontonagon Village Fire Hall will host a distribution event at 11 a.m. at 315 River Street. It’s another chance for families to receive much-needed food.
In Alger County, the Salvation Army of Marquette County is set to distribute food at Munising Wesleyan Church. This will begin at noon at n6310 Knox Street.
If anyone can’t make it, they can have someone else pick up food on their behalf. Just note that there’s a limit on the number of families one person can help—volunteers can provide that information.
These events are all drive-thru, so participants are encouraged to stay in their vehicles for safety and efficiency.
The need for food assistance has only increased in recent years. According to a survey by Feeding America, food insecurity affects 1 in 8 households in the U.S. In Michigan alone, this number is even higher, with many families facing tough times due to economic challenges. Community efforts like these pantries play a crucial role in helping those in need.
