Jon Rahm, the Spanish golf star, just made a big decision. He struck a deal to stay with the DP World Tour. This means he will be eligible for next year’s Ryder Cup in Ireland.
Rahm’s journey hasn’t been smooth. He had a long dispute with the European tour after playing in LIV events without permission since 2024. He refused to pay fines during this time. At 31, Rahm found himself in a tough spot. Without resolving this issue, he wouldn’t have been able to participate in key events, including the Ryder Cup.
Throughout the standoff, Rahm believed he could find a solution. Now, he’s set to pay around £2 million in fines and must participate in at least five DP World Tour events. This agreement comes right after Saudi Arabia confirmed it would stop funding the LIV Golf League after 2026.
“There’s no longer a standoff,” Rahm said. He noted that both sides made concessions to reach this agreement. The DP World Tour spokesperson confirmed that Rahm’s deal includes releases for playing in LIV tournaments while also participating in agreed-upon DP World Tour events.
Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald is likely pleased about this development. Rahm has already played in four Ryder Cups, winning three of them, and he is known for his strong performance alongside fellow golfer Tyrrell Hatton. Together, they have an unbeaten record in five matches.
Interestingly, Rahm is not alone. Eight other players have also made arrangements with the DP World Tour, allowing them to play LIV events without facing sanctions. Each of them must also play at least six DP World Tour events.
