The Nebraska softball team had an exciting doubleheader at the Troy Cox Classic, playing against Montana and Northern Colorado. The Huskers dominated both games, outscoring their opponents 23-5.
Throughout the doubleheader, Nebraska racked up 25 hits, 21 RBIs, and hit seven home runs. This impressive performance brought their total for the weekend to 48 hits, 49 RBIs, and 17 home runs. It’s the first time since 2015 that the team scored over 10 runs in four consecutive games.
In their first game against Montana, the Huskers fell behind 4-0 but quickly turned the game around. They scored eight consecutive runs, including seven in the fourth inning, to take the match 13-5. Ava Kuszak led the team, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBIs, and one home run. Jordyn Bahl also contributed significantly, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Other players, like Bella Bacon and Talia Tokheim, also hit home runs during this thrilling game.
Pitcher Emmerson Cope secured the win, allowing only one run over 2.1 innings of relief. Kylee Magee started the game, giving up no earned runs in her two innings, while Hannah Camenzind closed it out strong.
The second game featured Bahl’s stunning performance, where she pitched a no-hitter, marking her fourth career no-hitter and the program’s 41st overall. She struck out five while allowing just two walks and two hit-by pitches. Bahl even added an RBI to her impressive outing.
Ava Bredwell shone in this game too, hitting a grand slam in the fifth inning, resulting in four RBIs. Samantha Bland added two RBIs, and both Lauren Camenzind and Bacon collected multiple hits.
Nebraska’s run at the Troy Cox Classic continues with a game against Montana State on Sunday morning, starting at 10:00 a.m. CT.
