Jorma Taccone from the Lonely Island recently faced a serious accident. He fell 20 feet from a ladder while working on a mural at his farmhouse in Connecticut, resulting in a shattered pelvis and a detached sacrum.
In a recent episode of the “Lonely Island & Seth Meyers” podcast, Taccone shared the details from his hospital bed. He had his sights set on creating a large mural on the barn wall, which stands about 25 feet tall. But he borrowed a ladder that his neighbor warned him was unsafe. Despite the warning, he felt confident it would be fine.
While hanging lights for the mural, Taccone slipped and fell. He recalled having a brief moment to think, “I’m going to die.” Unfortunately, this accident happened on August 31, which was also his daughter’s fifth birthday. “Not the best way to start the day,” he joked.
After surgery, doctors estimated it may take him three to six months to walk again. His co-hosts expressed relief that he was not more seriously injured. They even pondered how long it would take before they could make light of the accident. Taccone humorously suggested it should be immediately.
In related news, Taccone recently directed a film titled “Over Your Dead Body,” which was picked up by IFC in May, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
A study by the National Safety Council revealed that ladder-related injuries are common, with thousands occurring each year. Experts in workplace safety often highlight the importance of using proper equipment. As Taccone’s accident shows, even seemingly small choices can lead to serious consequences.
Fans and followers reacted to his story on social media, expressing their support and relief that he is okay. It’s a reminder that safety often comes second to creativity and ambition, but a little caution can go a long way.
