A federal judge has put off a decision on the Justice Department’s move to dismiss the corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Instead, he appointed an outside attorney, Paul D. Clement, to provide independent opinions on the case. Clement is known for his conservative views and previously served as U.S. solicitor general under President George W. Bush.
Judge Dale E. Ho from Federal District Court in Manhattan wants more information from all parties involved. He mentioned he might hold an oral argument on March 14, if needed.
This ruling adds more tension to an already charged situation. Political and legal turmoil has resulted in resignations among federal prosecutors in New York and Washington. Some of Adams’s political rivals are using the situation to push for his resignation.
