Julianne Moore recently shared insights about her journey to prioritize health as she ages. At 64, the award-winning actress reflects on how her perspective has shifted over the years.
In her interview with PEOPLE, she acknowledged that youth often comes with a sense of invincibility. “When you’re younger, you don’t think about health,” Moore explained. However, life experiences have taught her that health is vital. “The more life you live, the more precious it becomes,” she said.
Moore’s recent knee injury while filming made her rethink her health choices. “I’ve always been confident about my knees, but then I had an accident that reminded me to pay attention,” she recalled. “You don’t realize what you have until it’s gone.”
She emphasized the importance of staying active and maintaining a balanced diet. “Regular exercise, good nutrition, and sleep help me do what I love,” she added.
Moore has teamed up with Eli Lilly to promote brain health awareness, particularly regarding Alzheimer’s disease. A recent study indicates that women are nearly twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This fact deeply resonates with Moore, especially since her role in the film Still Alice introduced her to the harsh realities of dementia.
She emphasized that prioritizing brain health deserves as much attention as physical health. “We focus on physical wellness, but we must also discuss brain health,” she said. She advocates for regular cognitive assessments and open conversations with doctors about dementia risks.
Moore’s journey shows the importance of recognizing our health’s role in our lives. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire others to take their health seriously, especially as they age.
