Friday Box Office Update: “Jurassic World Rebirth” Roars to Success
This past Friday, Jurassic World Rebirth brought in a hefty $26.3 million, marking an impressive 4% increase. It’s now the second-highest single-day total for the film, just behind its $30.5 million opening day.
In its first five days, Rebirth has grossed $141.2 million overall, with the weekend total at $85.4 million. Globally, it opened to $312.5 million across 82 markets, surpassing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s $298.9 million.
July 4th posed some challenges as many people were distracted by summer celebrations, yet Rebirth still achieved the highest July 4th earnings for a number one film in a post-COVID era. It outperformed previous blockbusters, like last year’s Despicable Me 4 and F9 from 2021.
Audience demographics show a shift: only 36% of viewers were under 25. In contrast, Fallen Kingdom attracted 56% in that age group. The most significant audience segment for Rebirth is adults aged 25-34, making up 29% of ticket sales.
Family viewership is strong, with 41% of attendees bringing kids. Interestingly, only 7% came as couples on a date night. This film’s appeal spans across demographics, yet the numbers suggest that its core audience is maturing.
Box office performance varied regionally, with the South and South Central seeing the best sales. AMC’s Disney Springs in Orlando is the top-grossing cinema, earning $230,000 so far. Premium formats like PLF (Premium Large Format) accounted for 29% of ticket sales, while 3D contributed 18%.
A key observation is that 58% of patrons purchased their tickets on the same day. However, presales for Rebirth were notably higher than for Dominion, with 30% of tickets bought in the last week compared to 14% for the prior film.
The main reason people bought tickets? A solid 51% stated it’s part of a beloved franchise. The star-studded cast, featuring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, also drew in viewers.
Marketing strategies played a role in its success. In-theater trailers were the top influence for 17% of moviegoers, while social media and buzz among friends further fueled interest.
Looking ahead, 53% of surveyed viewers expressed eagerness for a sequel, whereas 33% noted they’d consider it depending on the story.
In other box office news, Warner Bros.’ F1 brought in $6.9 million on its second Friday, projecting a weekend total of $24-$25 million, potentially reaching a total of $108.9 million by Sunday.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s strong showing indicates that audiences are still eager for epic adventures filled with dinosaurs.
