Justin Baldoni’s Attorneys Fight Back Against Blake Lively’s Damages Claim: What You Need to Know

Justin Baldoni’s legal team is pushing back against Blake Lively’s request to recover fees linked to their recent “It Ends With Us” legal dispute. They want a judge to dismiss any future arguments.

Earlier this week, Baldoni and Lively reached a surprise settlement. However, Lively’s team still seeks compensation for legal expenses from Baldoni, stemming from a countersuit he filed in January 2025, which the court later dismissed. No financial terms of the settlement have been made public, but sources have indicated that no money changed hands.

Baldoni’s attorney, Ellyn Garofalo, argues that Lively should not pursue further claims. She points out that Lively has already settled her major concerns without receiving any of the $300 million in damages she initially sought. Baldoni’s side insists that the lengthy legal battle should wrap up with current court decisions.

Garofalo also noted that Lively hasn’t clarified why more arguments are necessary, especially since she previously claimed there was enough information for the judge to rule on her requests for fees and damages.

Importantly, a section of California civil law protects individuals who publicly report allegations of misconduct from retaliatory claims. This context sheds light on why both parties have taken such a firm stance.

In Baldoni’s countersuit, which demanded $400 million, he claimed Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, tried to tarnish his reputation and seize control of the film project. However, most of Lively’s claims were dismissed, except for three that went to trial: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding in retaliation.

While the court has approved the settlement, Lively’s team is requesting to introduce a new brief to discuss how the judge’s recent decisions might affect their request for damages.

As this legal saga unfolds, it resonates with broader discussions about accountability and defamation in Hollywood. This case reflects a growing trend where public figures are often drawn into legal disputes that challenge not only their reputations but also the principles of free speech and accountability.

The ongoing dialogue in social media and celebrity circles highlights the public’s interest in these legal battles, often discussing whether such disputes overshadow the creative work these stars produce.
