Kai Trump made her LPGA debut at the Annika tournament in Florida but struggled, finishing below par at 18 over. Despite being last in a field of 108 players, she showed promise after improving her score from 83 to a 75 in just 24 hours.
On her second day, Trump made birdies on the third, seventh, 11th, and 12th holes. She almost snagged her first hole-in-one with an impressive shot from 140 yards. “I was really nervous on the first day,” she admitted. “But today, I felt calm, and that helped my game.”
Although she faced challenges, including a triple-bogey on the fifth hole, Trump maintained a positive outlook. “Things happen,” she said. “You can’t change the past. I just laughed it off and moved on.”
Next year, she’ll be playing for the University of Miami, but she’s had limited competition this season, participating in only three events so far. Currently ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), she impressed many by averaging 241 yards off the tee.
Charley Hull, a competitor in the tournament, commented on Trump’s performance: “Given the tough nature of the course, her stats are quite impressive.” Hull herself is doing well in the tournament, sitting at five under par, just behind the leaders.
Trump’s debut reflects how amateur golfers can transition to professional play, even against tough competition. As she gains experience, her potential to succeed in the sport is evident.
