Kano Government Takes Action: Two Warehouses in Sabon Gari Sealed for Violating Regulations

The Kano State Government has taken action to protect residents’ health and the environment by sealing two warehouses on Airport Road. These facilities, located near No. 2 Court in Sabon Gari, were found to be improperly storing insecticides and fumigation chemicals.

Malam Ibrahim Nasir, the Director of Pollution Control, led the enforcement. He explained that the decision came after community members reported a strong, unpleasant odor from the warehouses. Inspections confirmed the complaints, and despite issuing an abatement notice to the shop owner, he failed to comply. This led to the sealing of the premises and potential legal consequences.

Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the seriousness of such violations. “Storing hazardous materials near homes is a genuine threat. We will take strong action against anything that jeopardizes our community’s safety,” he stated.

This incident is part of a broader effort to address environmental issues. A recent survey indicated that nearly 70% of residents in urban areas are concerned about pollution and its impact on health, showing the importance of government vigilance in such matters.

The ministry encourages residents to report any environmental issues to ensure a cleaner and safer living space. By actively participating, the community can help in monitoring these hazards and promoting a healthier environment for everyone.
