Kansas State Wildcats Finish Strong: 11th Place at the Big 12 Championship – Highlights and Insights

HOCKLEY, Texas – The Kansas State Wildcats faced a tough challenge during the second round of the 2025 Big 12 Championship. They scored 19-over par, totaling 30-over par 598 for 36 holes. This drop pushed them from 8th to 11th place on the leaderboard.

Across the tournament, the course was challenging for all teams, with no player finishing under par. On average, players scored 5.17 shots over par during the day, highlighting the difficulty of Houston Oaks Golf Club.

Senior Sophie Bert shone brightly for Kansas State, turning in an even-par round. This impressive performance helped her climb 13 spots into a tie for 14th place with a score of 3-over par 145. Bert was among just 13 golfers who broke par on this tough day, securing four birdies, including three in her first seven holes.

Close behind her is fellow senior Carla Bernat, tied for 10th place after a second-round total of 4-over par, leaving her at 2-over par 144 overall. Freshman Nanami Nakashima also made strides, improving to tie for 52nd place with a score of 13-over par 155 after shooting 6-over par. Other Wildcats are junior Noa van Beek and sophomore Alenka Navarro, who are positioned just behind their teammate.

Oklahoma State surged to the top of the leaderboard, rising three places with a total of 6-over par 574. They lead Houston by two strokes and TCU by three. A three-way tie exists at the top of the individual leaderboard, with Oklahoma State’s Marta Silchenko, TCU’s Camille Min-Gaultier, and Houston’s Natalie Saint Germain all at 2-under par 140. Notably, Saint Germain made a significant move up the rankings thanks to the best round of the day, scoring 4-under par 67.

As the tournament heads into the final round, Kansas State will tee off at 9:10 a.m. from hole No. 10, paired with Cincinnati and Baylor. That round can be watched live on ESPN+ starting at 11:30 a.m., with live scoring available on Clippd.

In addition to the competition on the course, interest in women’s golf has been on the rise. According to the National Golf Foundation, participation among women in golf has increased by 36% over the past decade, showcasing a growing trend in interest and engagement with the sport.
