Bengaluru has become the center of attention as the Karnataka team triumphed on the opening day of the Sabala Indian Pickleball Nationals. Competing in the men’s (30+) category, Karnataka players Sujith Sachchidanand, William, Rasheen Samuel, and Avilay Jha overpowered the Delhi team.

The Sabala Indian Pickleball Nationals, which runs from November 13 to 16, is the first national event since the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) gained formal recognition as a National Sports Federation by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Over 900 players from more than 20 states are participating, showcasing the sport’s growth in India. Competitors include a wide range of ages and skill levels, from under-12 athletes to seasoned players over 70.

The tournament kicked off with a special inauguration led by notable figures, including Suryaveer Singh Bhullar from the IPA and former BBMP Mayor Sampath Raj, among others.

The Rise of Pickleball in India

Have you noticed the growing buzz around pickleball? This sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, making it fun and accessible for everyone. Popularity has surged due to its simplicity and social aspect. According to a recent survey, participation in pickleball has grown by 25% over the last year alone, as more players discover its enjoyment and health benefits.

A Healthy Partnership

Enter Sabala, a brand promoting nutritious millets as “Bharat ka Superfood.” Part of the Ramoji Group, Sabala aims to reconnect traditional Indian grains with modern diets, encouraging healthy eating. Their involvement in the tournament reflects their commitment to health and empowerment. As Sahari Cherukuri, Sabala Millets’ Director, puts it, this initiative is about bridging the gap between old and new cooking methods.

The collaboration between Sabala and the IPA not only highlights the importance of athleticism but also the value of health, which is more relevant today than ever. As we see rising health trends, the emphasis on nutritious diets continues to shape our lifestyles and sporting events alike.

Pickleball may just be in its infancy in India, but with competitions like the Sabala Indian Pickleball Nationals, the future looks bright. It’s an exciting time for athletes and fans alike!
