Kashmiri Parents Urge for Evacuation of Students from Iran Amid Conflict

As the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates, parents of Kashmiri students in Iran are increasingly anxious and calling on the Indian government to evacuate their children. Many of these students are based in Tehran, which has faced intense airstrikes.

Suhail Muzamil Qadri, from Srinagar, expressed deep concern: “Our children are stuck in the middle of this crisis. They have no safety measures in place, and the current situation is traumatizing.” According to reports, around 1,300 Kashmiri students, mainly studying medical courses, are in Iran right now.

Mothers gathered in Srinagar’s Lalchowk area, visibly distressed. They shared their worries: “We can’t eat or sleep, knowing our kids are in danger.” Maqsood Ahmad, another concerned parent, accused the government of inaction despite their pleas.

In response, the Jammu and Kashmir government set up a control room in Srinagar to assist families. They’ve also directed families to contact the Indian Embassy in Iran for help. The Ministry of External Affairs has provided emergency numbers for those needing assistance.

Rouf Ahmad, another parent, stated, “Our children have registered with the Indian Embassy, and we hope the government prioritizes this urgent request.” The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of these students.

Political leaders from various parties are now calling for immediate action. Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Pradesh Congress Committee in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized that safety must be the top priority. People’s Democratic Party spokesman Zuhaib Mir highlighted the dire plight of the students, describing it as a humanitarian crisis.

As this situation continues to unfold, parents remain hopeful for swift intervention from the Indian government. Recent news indicates that similar evacuations have been conducted in other crises, like during the Ukraine conflict. Families are watching closely, hoping their children will soon be safe at home.
