Keegan Murray’s injury isn’t slowing him down financially. The Kings forward just signed a five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension with Sacramento, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
This contract comes just hours after the Kings signed veteran Russell Westbrook for one year at $3.6 million. Murray, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has been a steady contributor to the Kings, earning All-Rookie recognition in his debut season. Last year, he averaged 12.4 points and a career-best 6.7 rebounds per game.
Unfortunately for the Kings, Murray will be sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks due to a torn ligament in his left thumb. He had surgery in New York following the injury, which occurred during a preseason game. Dr. Amy Ladd from Stanford University noted that ligament injuries can take three to six months to heal fully. According to her expert opinion, even if he gets cleared sooner, additional protection will likely be necessary to avoid re-injury.
