He announced plans for a presidential commission that will review issues like childhood vaccine schedules and psychiatric medications, which he often questions in his mission to tackle chronic diseases.
Mr. Kennedy emphasized that “nothing is going to be off limits.” His 22-minute speech was shared via video, indicating a clear direction for his leadership.
In his address, he urged his colleagues to move past the political conflicts surrounding his nomination. He stressed the importance of keeping an open mind and listening to all viewpoints, even those he may not agree with. “Let’s all depoliticize these issues,” he said. He’s committed to listening and learning, stating, “I promise to be willing to be wrong.”
Mr. Kennedy also indicated how he plans to use his new role. He aims to guide the “Make America Healthy Again” commission, established by President Trump, to address topics he believes have been overlooked or inadequately discussed by mainstream scientists.
However, some experts, like Dr. Paul Offit from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, remain skeptical. They argue that Kennedy’s attitude may reveal preconceived notions about vaccines and other health issues.
